“Brutal yet sensitively rendered, putting a human face, if a fictional one, on an issue that rarely gets one. Almost Dickens for the 21st century.” Mary Ann Johanson

1. This is a deeply sobering movie about tragedy of human trafficking.

2. It is beautifully acted by main character Lakshmi (Naiyar Saikai.) I won’t soon forget her spirit.

3. People can truly transcend the most horrific situations. As evil as some can be to participate, condone, or aide in sex trafficking, the heroism of many humans is extraordinary.

4. Being strong willed, recalcitrant, non compliant, industrious, and driven is often a good thing.

5. The soundtrack is wonderful especially when the children survivors sang at the end. I also especially loved the scene where the girls have a moment of levity while dancing to “Namaste” on the roof.

6. It is unreal that slavery is still a human epidemic.

7. The film reverently tells this brutal story yet somehow hope is present. You witness an especially sweet friendship between Lakshmi and the young boy, Harish.

Armrestrating: The very highest rating for an important film. God bless those afflicted.
